FOOD INTOLERANCE
What is Food Intolerance (food intolerance)?
Many foods that we eat thinking that they are healthy may have negative effects on our body. For example, if an egg, which we consider to be very healthy, cannot be digested by our body, our body may start to react against the proteins in this egg. This negative effect is called "Food Intolerance" and can lead to negative effects in the body, from gaining weight to many chronic ailments.
What Happens If Some Proteins Cannot Be Degraded to Amino Acid?
The absence of various enzymes in our body, disorders in the intestinal flora or diseases such as leaky bowel syndrome prevent the food from being broken down to form proper amino acids in the intestine and the foods pass without breaking into the blood. The defense system treats them like a foreign substance and activates the defense system just as it attacks a bacterium or virus. As a result of this attack, inflammation occurs in the body and side effects begin to appear. Increasing CRP values cause symptoms such as fatigue, slowing metabolism and intestinal problems. If the patient consumes the same food regularly, many more chronic diseases begin to develop. In summary, food intolerance refers to the digestive difficulties of certain foods. Food Intolerance can be temporary or permanent.
What is Temporary Food Intolerance (food intolerance)?
Temporary Food Intolerance can be caused by:
- Excessive consumption of a particular food.
- Adverse reactions of our body temporarily to some food additives.
- The effects of special periods such as the pollen season on our body.
- Colds, flu or various viral illnesses.
- Various intestinal fungi such as Candida due to antibiotic use.
- Women are more likely to experience temporary food intolerance during ovulation or premenstrual time. Hormonal changes before or after pregnancy can also cause temporary food intolerance (food intolerance).
What is Persistent Food Intolerance (food intolerance)?
The deficiency of an enzyme required to digest a food or chronic leaky gut syndrome are the main causes of persistent food intolerance.
What is an enzyme and what is an enzyme deficiency?
Enzymes allow food to be digested in the body. These are found in the digestive system, liver, kidneys, and other structures of the body. In a person with an enzyme deficiency, the enzyme is not produced adequately by the body. This is usually a genetic disease caused by the lack or some deformation of the code required to produce enzymes. In enzyme deficiency, problems occur in the organ functions of the patients and Food Intolerance may be encountered.
What is Leaky Bowel Syndrome?
It occurs when the tissues that control absorption in the small intestine do not work properly. This causes unwanted substances to enter the bloodstream.
What is the Difference Between Food Allergy and Food Intolerance (food intolerance)?
Food Allergy
Food allergy affects about 2% of the adult population and is extremely rare. During an allergic reaction, the body's immune system believes it is 'occupied' and produces IgE (Immunoglobulin E) antibodies to remove food that it mistakenly thinks is harmful. In this case, the body's reaction can vary from mild to life-threatening.
Food Intolerance (food intolerance)
Unlike allergies, food intolerance consists of biological reactions that are generally not life-threatening but cause many long-term illnesses. Unlike food allergy, IgG antibodies are produced, not IgE (Immunoglobulin E) antibodies. Food intolerance is much more common than food allergy and affects more than half of the world's population.
